Time to Pretend

It's been a almost 2 weeks...

Well, work has been general madness. I won’t bore you with the details because I lived them and am bored by them. What has been happening that isn’t boring? Well, I went out with my buddy Warren to see the Junior Boys show at Webster Hall. Of course I led us to the Bowery Ballroom first, but we made it just in time to see their rig die. Their MPC brain and all of their madly swirling arpeggiations crapped out. All they had was a delay effect on their guitar and a live drummer. Quoth Warren, “PLyren, some bands can play their instruments and some have computers.” Very succinct and sadly true. Although, truth be told, I have never been terribly concerned with how music is played - only how it sounds, but that changes when I am paying to see it live. Had a good time anyway - ate some yakitori and drank some sake. I am very glad Warren has returned from San Fran. I have high hopes his wife will follow at some point. I miss Angie too.

My Cleveland Cavaliers have been on an absolute tear. Have swept both Detroit and Atlanta in the 1st and second rounds of the playoffs respectively. Some of the games have been so technically perfect, the defense so good, the offense so fluid, the ball movement hitting all points, rebounding, even coaching…it has been a joy to watch really. Actually, I listen to the games on the internet. The NBA has my home town announcer, Joe Tait - one of the all-time greats - preaching for free. It is sweet balm to the tortured Cleveland Sports soul. The next round we play either Boston, who beat us in 7 games last year in the Conference Championships, or Orlando who has Josh Howard, the best defensive player in the league, and the Magic have given us fits all year as well. Bad match-up for us. We need to be playing much better interior D to man up on these cats. But they are currently tied in 2 - 2 tie in a best of 7 series. My hope is that they go all 7 and come out exhausted while the Cavs get to rest up and get ready.

I have been working on a new song or two. They are coming along pretty well I think. I am further decoding Logic 8. I need to get into some effects both macro and micro like panning and variable volume control. That is the next phase, but so far the sounds available, the level of control and enhancement and the way it is all stored are great improvements over Garage Band. I just need some time to do all this stuff which is tough with a 1 year old monkey dervish spinning around the house wreaking havoc and leaving destruction and Cheerios in his wake.

That’s it I think besides a nice Mother’s Day back rub for my wife last Sunday. I hired a masseuse to come to the house and work her over for a couple of hours. I think it was the right gift. I’ll post a prelim of my new song soon and maybe throw up another old one - although no one actually listens to them. It’s for posterity…
