Dealing with disappointment...

Ok, it’s been a week or so since my Cleveland Cavaliers blew it against the Orlando Magic. It wasn’t supposed to be this way. Lebron James and his newly assembled crew were the heirs apparent to the NBA title. Nike had the Lebron/Kobe commercials. All of Cleveland and most of the Sports world thought it was nearly predestined. Sadly, no one told Dwight Howard and the Magic. It came down to us being out coached. Simply put, we did not adjust. We kept trying the same failed offensive schemes that had worked in the regular season, but were being thwarted rather easily by Stan Van Gundy. So, we lost. And I am on a sports sabbatical for the rest of the summer. Not even going to follow the Indians. I am going to read “Of Human Bondage” by W. Somerset Maugham and reread the new Pevear & Volkonsky translation of “War and Peace” and listen to more music like the Dirty Projectors. I am going to do more of my own music and bang out how to do a decent final mix down in Logic Pro 8. I am going to stay at work less. Enjoy my life and family more. Sports suck more and more of your life out as they extend further and further into the post season. It is a tightening spiral - if your team loses. If the Cavs had won - it would have been elation and tears and history and amazing. So now, post Cavs 2009 title run, I am slowly returned to the real world; and gladly so.
