[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]     (played 4 times)

Here’s a perfect little pop ditty, Someone to Love, from a band called Minipop. They kinda rock! The lead singer’s voice is a perfect soaring blend of Harriet Wheeler (The Sundays) and Grace Sandoval (Mazzy Star). It is a very early 90s sounding blend of guitar laced as opposed to “guitar heavy” drone, a few squelches and bleeps from a synth or two and straight forward pop drums and driven bass. Catchy! It recalls Ride to me without the endless layering, but with the ecstatic builds and harmonic interweaving that made Ride so damned great. And Lush without the shoe-gazing and riffing. It is very unabashedly soaring pop though and eschews the artier hum of either of those 2 bands. Someone to Love, Precious, A New Hope (that I hope is not a new Star Wars reference…) are real standouts drenched in echo and delay and chorus effects that just dissolve into the ether of the space created in these songs. Some songs are a tad bland and leave me a little flat, but absolutely worth a listen if you like super girlie vocals and themes like in Butterflies and My Little Bee. Very girlie. But I like girlie stuff and female leads. That’s the way it is…
