Time to Pretend

I miss space. I miss the wide open expanses of space that space allows. I miss the vacuum, the draw, the cold, the dust…I want to go back. Are the Post-Soviets still selling tickets to the ISS (International Space Station)? The rocket looks rickety that Lance Bass (or one of the boy band guys) went up in. Did he actually do it? Can’t be bothered to look it up as, ultimately, I do not care - I just like to know the possibility is out there. I don’t have 20 million dollars or whatever Richard Branson is asking to go jetting about the stratosphere or go to the moon like they did in 2001: A Space Odyssey. But that is the way I would prefer to travel: hot space stewardesses in cool little outfits, odd space hats, and magnetic heels. Although the men in 2001 got kinda ripped off space suit wise. I don’t need or want the full pressurized suit and helmet and all, but a little nod to space travel would be a tad helpful to my space traveling ego. Perhaps a skinny mod suit with a stylish backpack rebreather and a jet booster or two so you can go bouncing around the spaceship. I just want to be reminded that I am flying around in space. And I don’t really want to go to the Moon or even Mars. I would def settle for that if that was all that was available, but I feel like I have practically been there already with all the NASA rover footage, the endless movies, the late 60’sactual landing on the Moon, the X-Men’s Death of Phoenix story arc, all that shit. I wanna go visit something new and bold like the edge of a blackhole, the crust of Io, Pluto now that it is no longer a planet, or “Attack ships on fire of the belt of Orion…” Anyway, I wanna go soon, cuz I know I am not going to be one of those yoga taking old guys that can fold themselves into a box at age 70 or whatever. I am still relatively fit, semi-smart - meaning I could be taught to handle a task or two for science, but it is all slipping away right now as neither NASA nor anyone will take tourists off this planet. Maybe by the time my 2 year old son is my age, he can head to Saturn for his summer vacation with my great grandkids. We’ll see. I hope for the future.
