The Free-ness and me...
It’s free Ben & Jerry’s cone day, and Red Mango across the street from my work is giving out a frozen yogurt with 1 topping, and a few weeks ago Starbuck’s which is also across the street was giving out free coffee. I never get them. I feel odd. I feel embarrassed. I hate using gift certificates. I don’t like coupons of any sort - won’t use them. It doesn’t make any sense. It’s kind of stupid - I know. I don’t mind gift cards, the ones that look like credit cards - I’ll use them any old time. There’s just something that makes me feel… cheap… when I use coupons especially. So I don’t. I’ll go to sales and indulge in discounts, but I always act like I didn’t know it was a sale day or that the item was marked down. I don’t know who I’m fooling? It’s not like the sales clerk cares one way or the other when I’m buying Chip & Pepper jeans at Filene’s Basement if there’s a sale or I’m using a coupon. I have money issues. Perceived value issues. I am the opposite of cheap. I tip way too much and too often. I always throw in too much money when a big group check is being passed down the table. I always bring wine even when I don’t need to… I should just go get a free ice cream cone and stop worrying about pointless shit? We’ll see.
